Ministry of the Interior and Safety Promotes Advanced Information Technology-Based Public Services Across 5 Agencies

AI Civil Complaint Writing Assistant, 3.4 Billion KRW Support for Big Data Convergence 119 Disaster Response

[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] Four public services, including an AI civil complaint writing assistant and big data-integrated 119 disaster response, whose effectiveness was verified through pilot and demonstration projects, will be expanded to other institutions.

The Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced on the 20th that it has selected four projects for promoting public services using advanced information technology next year, along with five institutions to oversee them, and will provide a total of 3.4 billion KRW in support.

The institutions and projects selected this year are ▲ AI-based civil complaint form writing assistant services in Seongdong-gu, Seoul and Geoje-si, Gyeongsangnam-do, ▲ the real-time urban big data-integrated 119 disaster response platform by Daejeon Fire Headquarters, ▲ the intelligent selective monitoring system in Gyeongsan-si, Gyeongsangbuk-do, ▲ and the Net-Zero fine dust response system in Pohang-si, Gyeongsangbuk-do.

First, Seongdong-gu in Seoul and Geoje-si in Gyeongsangnam-do will establish an ‘AI-based civil complaint form writing assistant’ service to provide civil application services without paper forms.

The Daejeon Metropolitan City Fire Headquarters will build a ‘real-time urban big data-integrated 119 disaster response platform’ for scientific decision-making based on data in complex disaster situations.

Gyeongsan-si in Gyeongsangbuk-do will establish an ‘intelligent selective monitoring system’ where AI first recognizes specific behavior patterns such as wandering or falling to assist monitoring personnel’s situational judgment. Pohang-si in Gyeongsangbuk-do will build the ‘Pohang-si Net-Zero fine dust big data-based response system’ to address air pollution caused by the steel industrial complex, a regional characteristic, and the climate crisis.

The Ministry of the Interior and Safety and the Korea Local Information Research & Development Institute, the project’s specialized institution, plan to select operators by May next year and complete the projects by December.

Seo Boram, Director of the Digital Government Bureau at the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, stated, “When advanced technologies such as AI are applied to public services, convenience for citizens increases and faster disaster response becomes possible,” adding, “We will continue to expand excellent public services utilizing advanced technologies to support the realization of a digital platform government.”
