[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-ju] Baek Nam-jong, Director of Bundang Seoul National University Hospital (Professor of Rehabilitation Medicine), was recently appointed as the next President-Elect of the 12th World Congress for Neurorehabilitation held in Vienna, Austria, becoming the first Korean to hold this position.
Founded in 1996, the World Congress for Neurorehabilitation is a multidisciplinary society involving doctors, researchers, therapists, and clinical psychologists working in the field of neurorehabilitation. It is the most prestigious society in the neurorehabilitation field, with over 5,000 members from 42 member countries worldwide. Director Baek was elected as the next President this year and will assume the presidency in 2026.
Director Baek is a world-renowned authority in neurorehabilitation treatment that aids brain function in patients with brain damage caused by stroke, dementia, Parkinson's disease, and other conditions. He served as President of the Asian-Oceanian Society of Neurorehabilitation from 2015 to 2019 and received the 'Seokjeon Shin Jeong-soon Academic Award' in 2019, given to the most outstanding rehabilitation medicine researcher in Korea. Currently, he is a professor in the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine at Seoul National University College of Medicine and the Director of Bundang Seoul National University Hospital, actively engaged both domestically and internationally.
Director Baek said, "I am honored to be appointed as the next President of the world’s leading neurorehabilitation society," adding, "I will continue to strive to contribute to the advancement of the neurorehabilitation field worldwide."
