[Asia Economy Reporter Changhwan Lee] Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida held a press conference on the 16th after deciding to revise the three major security documents through the Cabinet meeting, stating that Japan's current missile defense system is insufficient and that a 'counterattack capability' is necessary.

Prime Minister Kishida argued that the security environment has rapidly changed, with North Korea's ballistic missiles flying over the Japanese archipelago and landing within the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) this year, making the strengthening of defense capabilities essential.

He emphasized, "Defense capabilities are necessary to support diplomacy, and strengthening defense leads to persuasiveness in diplomacy," adding, "At this turning point in history, I will fulfill my mission as Prime Minister to protect the nation and its people."

The Japanese government decided on the same day to revise the three major security documents to fundamentally strengthen defense capabilities, including the 'counterattack capability' to strike enemy missile launch bases.

Japan plans to accelerate the deployment of long-range missiles to secure counterattack capabilities.
