Application and Registration for Damage Prevention Team Open Until the 23rd
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Song Jong-gu] Namhae-gun, Gyeongnam Province, operates a nuisance wildlife damage prevention team to protect the valuable crops of residents from nuisance wildlife such as wild boars, water deer, magpies, and crows, and to minimize damage to power facilities.
Namhae-gun will accept applications for the winter nuisance wildlife damage prevention team from the 19th to the 23rd. Eligibility requires having held a hunting license or firearm possession permit for more than 5 years and having a record of capturing nuisance wildlife within the past 5 years.
The winter nuisance wildlife damage prevention team, consisting of about 25 members, is scheduled to operate from January 2 to May 31 next year. Additionally, to minimize damage to power facilities, capture permits for 1,500 magpies and 500 crows have been approved until the end of May next year, and captures are currently underway.
Lee Jun-pyo, Director of the Environment Division, said, “Despite similar annual capture numbers, the active breeding of wild boars and water deer has prevented population reduction, making the activities of the damage prevention team even more important. Captured wild boars are buried after testing for African swine fever. Regarding birds, access is restricted due to avian influenza concerns, so we strongly urge refraining from illegal capture and consumption.”
For additional inquiries related to the damage prevention team, please contact the Environment Division of the county office.
Namhae-gun’s nuisance wildlife damage prevention team captured 471 wild boars and 1,318 water deer in 2021, and as of the end of November this year, 351 wild boars and 1,273 water deer have been captured.
