Kim Eo-jun to Host Radio Show Only Until the End of This Year
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyun-joo] The People Power Party stated on the 12th regarding broadcaster Kim Eo-jun's decision to step down from TBS Radio's 'Kim Eo-jun's News Factory,' "It is truly fortunate that the 'Fake News Factory' has finally come to a halt."
Senior Spokesperson Park Jeong-ha criticized Kim, saying, "With his blatant pro-Democratic Party political bias in broadcasting, he has caused citizens to frown, openly acting as a fan club for the Democratic Party during every election, and has played the role of the opposition party's trumpet through distorted and inflammatory broadcasts." He also pointed out, "His departure is absurdly late compared to the controversies so far."
Park added, "This should serve as an opportunity for self-purification, where those hiding behind the shield of the media stop creating and spreading fake news, which causes national confusion and misleads public opinion."
People Power Party lawmaker Park Dae-chul also welcomed Kim's departure news, saying, "It is very late and should have happened much earlier, but I welcome it." On his Facebook that day, he wrote, "He was never supposed to be there in the first place. The departure is scheduled for the end of the year, and there are still three weeks left. Three weeks is long, but I will endure it," adding, "Having endured for six and a half years, can’t we endure three more weeks?" He further stated, "Freedom of the press is an absolute value that must not be violated, but fake news disguised as media can seriously threaten press freedom, so abuse of press freedom must not be allowed," and added, "It is now time for the remaining 'Fake News Factories' to exit as well."
Earlier, Kim announced at the start of the 'Kim Eo-jun's News Factory' broadcast that he would continue the program only until the end of this year. The program, which Kim has hosted since September 2016, has maintained the number one listenership rating on TBS Radio but has sparked controversies over political bias.
