Hapcheon-gun Conducts Campaign to Protect Parking Spaces Reserved for Disabled Persons

Improving Awareness of Mobility Convenience for Pedestrians with Disabilities and Establishing Proper Parking Culture in the Community

Hapcheon-gun, Gyeongnam Province, conducted a campaign to protect parking spaces designated for people with disabilities.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Hapcheon-gun, Gyeongnam, conducted a campaign on the 12th around the county office intersection to raise awareness for the convenience of mobility for people with walking disabilities and to establish a proper parking culture within the region by promoting adherence to disabled parking spaces.

The campaign, organized by the Center for the Promotion of Convenience for the Disabled, was attended by about 40 people including members of the County Association for the Physically Disabled, disability activity supporters, and county office officials. They distributed informational leaflets and promotional materials explaining major violations of disabled parking spaces, fines, and reporting procedures.

Only vehicles with parking permits for the disabled or their guardians may park in disabled parking spaces, and the vehicle must have a person with a walking disability on board.

The fine for parking violations is 100,000 KRW, and obstructive parking actions incur a fine of 500,000 KRW.

Park Pil-sook, Director of the Resident Welfare Division, stated, “Disabled parking spaces are subject to immediate enforcement regardless of short stops. Since these spaces are installed for people with walking disabilities, we ask residents to actively cooperate in establishing a mature parking culture by keeping these spaces vacant when not in use.”

The county plans to continue guidance and promotional activities to prevent cases of residents improperly using disabled parking spaces or being fined.
