Naver Webtoon Unveils 'My Webtoon Report'
Top Paid Revenue Titles: 'Eleceed' and 'Nae Nampyeongwa Gyeolhonhaejwo'
[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] Naver analyzed the reading histories of users on Naver Webtoon and Series this year, revealing that the most popular works were "Oemojisangjuui" and "Yeonae Hyeokmyeong." Both titles have maintained top rankings for over eight years. Although "Illexid" and "Nae Nampyeongwa Gyeolhonhaejwo" were not the most viewed works, they were recorded as the titles that induced the most cookie (paid) purchases.
On the 12th, Naver Webtoon and Series each released the "2022 With Webtoon My Webtoon Report" and "2022 With Series My Series Report," analyzing individual users' reading histories on web and application platforms. These reports are characterized by providing customized year-end summary data based on users' reading histories from January to October 2022.
According to the Webtoon Report, Naver Webtoon users watched an average of 938 episodes throughout the year. The most read works this year were "Oemojisangjuui" and "Yeonae Hyeokmyeong." These works were discovered through Challenge Comics and have maintained top rankings for over eight years. The authors of "Yeoshingangnim" and "Doknip Ilgi," which also ranked, debuted through Challenge Comics as well.
Among works that started serialization this year, the most viewed webtoons were "99 Ganghwanamumongdungi" and "Eojjeodaboni Cheonsaengyeonbun." Both titles began global service just two months after their Korean serialization. Currently, they have quickly secured top positions in Thai, English, and French services, demonstrating the strength of Korean content. Naver Webtoon offers about 60% of its 500 official serializations in languages other than Korean.
The top titles inducing the most paid purchases, known as the 'Cookie Thief BEST,' were "Illexid" and "Nae Nampyeongwa Gyeolhonhaejwo." In particular, "Nae Nampyeongwa Gyeolhonhaejwo" stands out as a work showcasing the synergy of Naver Webtoon's IP value chain, spanning web novels and webtoons. After the webtoon adaptation of the original Naver Series web novel, the original work's monthly average transaction amount increased more than threefold. "Nanomashin," ranked third in the Cookie Thief BEST, is also based on a web novel completed in 2018.
Outside of webtoons, the 'Series Report' provided by Naver Series showed that synergy effects between web novels and webtoons shone brightly. The top Cookie Thief titles of the year, "Iltagangsa Baeksabu" and "Nae Nampyeongwa Gyeolhonhaejwo," as well as the top bookmark titles "Hwasan Gwihwan" and "Jeonjijeok Dokjasijeom," are all based on web novels and are currently popular serializations on Naver Webtoon. "Hwasan Gwihwan," with its solid original web novel and webtoon synergy, became the first single web novel title to surpass 20 billion KRW in annual sales.
