LIG Nex1 Begins Development of Battalion-Level Counter-Battery Radar System

300 Billion Won Investment to Replace Aging Counter-Battery Radar by 2026

LIG Nex1 Begins Development of Battalion-Level Counter-Battery Radar System

[Asia Economy Yang Nak-gyu, Military Specialist Reporter] LIG Nex1 has won the contract for the division-level counter-battery radar system development project. This project involves researching and developing a division-level counter-battery radar with improved target detection performance and survivability domestically, to replace the outdated counter-battery radars (TPQ-36·37) of the Army and Marine Corps by 2026.

According to LIG Nex1 on the 12th, the project scale is 30 billion KRW, and the division-level counter-battery radar will have double the simultaneous target detection capability compared to current equipment, a 14% improvement in detection accuracy, and the ability to identify rocket-assisted projectiles (RAP).

Additionally, deployment and withdrawal times will be reduced by 66% and 33%, respectively, and the remote operation range will be expanded tenfold, enhancing survivability.

Once the system development project is completed, more than 20 division-level counter-battery radars are expected to be operational in the Army and Marine Corps from the late 2020s.
