[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Hee-jun] It has been reported that China has temporarily suspended imports of some Taiwanese alcoholic beverages following seafood products.

According to Taiwan's Central News Agency on the 10th, Chinese customs authorities have temporarily suspended imports of some Taiwanese alcoholic beverages and drinks, such as Jinmen Kaoliang and Taiwan Beer, citing incomplete registration information.

Su Zhenchang, Premier of Taiwan's Executive Yuan, stated, "China is using administrative registration methods to interfere with trade activities, which does not comply with World Trade Organization (WTO) rules." He announced plans to consider filing a WTO complaint and to support affected businesses.

Earlier, on the 9th, Taiwanese media reported that exports of squid, saury, and other seafood to China were halted after about 100 Taiwanese seafood companies applied. Additionally, China banned imports of Taiwanese grouper, hairtail, and horse mackerel in June this year, and around the time of U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's visit to Taiwan in August, China placed over 100 Taiwanese food companies under import restrictions.

China's recent measures are seen as possible "retaliatory actions" against Taiwan, coming after the U.S. approved exports of $428 million (approximately 560 billion KRW) worth of fighter jet parts to Taiwan this week. There is also speculation that these actions may be an attempt to further corner the ruling Democratic Progressive Party, which suffered a defeat in the local elections held on the 26th of last month.
