Installation of 'Intersection Notification' Around Yongma Elementary School in Gwangjin-gu

Installation of 'Intersection Alert' at 3 Locations Near Yongma Elementary School in Junggok 2-dong, Gwangjin-gu ... LED Lighting Detects Approaching Vehicles to Promote Safe Driving

Installation of 'Intersection Notification' Around Yongma Elementary School in Gwangjin-gu When vehicles approach at night

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gwangjin-gu (Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) has installed ‘Intersection Alert Devices’ at three side street intersections near Yongma Elementary School to create a safe school commute free of traffic accidents.

Side street intersections where installing traffic lights is difficult lack clear separation between sidewalks and roadways, increasing the risk of traffic accidents. Accordingly, the district proactively identifies dangerous areas and gathers residents’ opinions to install Intersection Alert Devices.

The ‘Intersection Alert Device’ is a traffic accident prevention system that notifies pedestrians and drivers of approaching vehicles with lights at side street intersections.

During the day, yellow LED lights attached to the ground flash continuously to alert drivers to the intersection, encouraging safe driving.

At night, the device detects the headlights of the first approaching vehicle and emits yellow light toward the vehicle and red lights to the left and right directions, sending a warning signal to both drivers and pedestrians.

The district expects that this installation will prevent traffic accidents around Yongma Elementary School and create a walking environment where children and parents can travel safely.

A resident said, “I was worried about possible accidents in the narrow alley, but when a vehicle approaches, the bright light helps prevent traffic accidents.”

Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, “Since special attention is required for children’s safety around elementary schools, installing Intersection Alert Devices is essential. We will continue to do our best to create a safe traffic environment where residents can travel with peace of mind.”

Currently, a total of 71 Intersection Alert Devices are installed on side streets in residential areas and school routes within the district, and the district plans to expand their deployment to ensure residents’ travel safety.
