Exhibition on the 21st Featuring Works Worth About 10 Billion KRW with Scores of 85
‘Sinsasilpa’ Formed After Liberation: Kim Whanki, Yoo Youngkuk, Jang Ukjin Gathered Together
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heeyoon] Representative works of the key figures of the 'Sinsasilpa' art group, which advocated purity in the Korean art scene from 1948 to 1953, will be auctioned side by side.
K-Auction announced on the 10th that works by leading members of Sinsasilpa, Kim Whanki, Yoo Youngkuk, and Jang Ukjin, will be featured as representative pieces in the December auction held on the 21st at their headquarters in Sinsa-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul.
This auction will feature 85 works, including Kim Whanki's Paris period pieces and works by Park Soo-keun, totaling approximately 10 billion KRW in value.
Kim Whanki's 1958 work "Bird and Moon," painted during his stay in Paris, France, is estimated at 2.2 to 3 billion KRW and will seek a new owner. Yoo Youngkuk's 1991 work "Work" is estimated at 320 million to 500 million KRW, and Park Soo-keun's 1960 work "Old Man with Umbrella" is estimated at 400 million to 700 million KRW.
In the category of traditional art, "Gyeongsuyeondo" (慶壽宴圖), depicting the feast celebrating the longevity of parents, is estimated at 35 to 60 million KRW. Additionally, works such as Haegang Kim Gyujin's "Nigeumjuk," Chunbang Kim Young's "Hwajodo," Unbo Kim Kichang's "Squirrel," Cheongjeon Lee Sangbeom's "Spring Landscape and Autumn Landscape," and Baekryeon Ji Woonyoung's "Old Story Figures" are also featured, adding diversity.
In overseas art, George Condo's "Purple Venus," a consistently popular artist in the market, is estimated at 850 million to 1.2 billion KRW, and Ayako Rokaku's "Untitled" is also estimated at 850 million to 1.2 billion KRW. Additionally, works by Takashi Murakami, Edgar Plans, and Markus L?pertz, along with edition works by David Hockney, Keith Haring, and Yoshitomo Nara, are offered at reasonable prices, attracting attention.
The auction items can be viewed at the K-Auction exhibition hall until the auction day on the 21st.
