National Assembly Approval of the Amendment to the Telecommunications Business Act
[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Su-yeon] The Korea Communications Commission announced on the 9th that the amendment to the Telecommunications Business Act, which increases the number of dispute resolution committee members related to telecommunication service usage and enables ex officio mediation for prompt dispute resolution, was approved at the National Assembly plenary session the day before.
The main contents related to telecommunication dispute resolution in the Telecommunications Business Act amendment approved at the National Assembly plenary session on that day are as follows.
First, the number of members of the Telecommunication Dispute Resolution Committee will be expanded from the current 10 to 30, and some standing members will be appointed. Next, Article 45-2, Paragraph 5 was newly established to allow the Korea Communications Commission to have a secretariat under its jurisdiction to support the work of the dispute resolution committee.
Article 45-6 was newly established to allow ex officio mediation decisions through the resolution of the dispute resolution committee if no agreement is reached between the parties or if the applicant's claim is deemed reasonable.
Chairman Han Sang-hyuk stated, "With the passage of the law, more prompt and effective dispute resolution will be possible, greatly helping to alleviate public inconvenience," and added, "The Korea Communications Commission will listen more closely to the voices of the people and take the lead in protecting their rights and interests."
The amendment to the Telecommunications Business Act is scheduled to be enforced six months after its promulgation following the resolution of the State Council.
