Along with winning the grand prize, three villages?Bojeon Village in Singwang-myeon, Heungyongdong Village in Eomda-myeon, and Samgu Village in Nasan-myeon?were selected as excellent villages in the village-level evaluation, securing an additional 2 million KRW in project funds for next year.

The county presented excellent cases of Hampyeong-type Clean Jeonnam Best Village under the slogan “Let’s live together in Hampyeong for life” at this contest.

Despite the small number of villages, a high participation rate was shown with 90 villages from 9 eup and myeon participating, and the linkage of the Best Village with various policy projects was known to have received high marks in the comprehensive evaluation section.

Residents actively utilized funds beyond the supported project budget, such as fundraising from children who moved away, collection fees for agricultural waste, and profits from village communal gardens, successfully carrying out various projects that highlighted the characteristics of each village.

Accordingly, the county supported advanced site visits linked from initial community activities to village income projects for residents who experienced village autonomy through the Clean Jeonnam Best Village Making project and gained vitality, thereby revitalizing the region.

As a result of active efforts to expand the Best Village project and link it with existing policies, the county also achieved the distinction of being selected in the autonomy school category of the ‘2022 Provincial Policy School Contest’ last October.

Starting next year, a ‘Visiting Village Autonomy Workshop’ will be conducted to discover new Best Villages and plan mid- to long-term projects.

County Governor Lee Sang-ik said, “This award is entirely the fruit created by the residents themselves,” and added, “We will not spare interest and support so that community activities can be carried out more actively amid the crisis of local extinction.”

Meanwhile, ‘Clean Jeonnam Best Village Making’ is a Jeonnam Province policy project that began last year to manage and preserve the village’s clean resources and restore residents’ harmony and community spirit.
