Discovering and Nurturing Ice Skating Prospects... Busan Office of Education Hosts Superintendent's Cup Student Ice Skating Competition Busan Office of Education.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] The Busan Metropolitan Office of Education will hold the ‘Busan Metropolitan Office of Education Superintendent’s Cup Student Ice Skating Competition’ at 8 a.m. on the 10th at the Nam-gu Indoor Ice Rink.


Hosted by the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education and organized by the Busan Ice Skating Federation, this competition will feature 336 student athletes from elementary, middle, and high schools in the district.


The competition will be divided into morning and afternoon sessions. The morning session, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., will feature short track events with 220 participants, while the afternoon session, from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m., will have figure skating events with 116 participants.


The top 12 male and female winners in short track by category (elementary, middle, high school) and the top 4 winners in figure skating by category (elementary, middle, high school) will receive the Superintendent’s Award, while other awardees will receive the Federation President’s Award.


Kim Beom-gyu, Director of the Department of Sports and Health at the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education, said, “We hope this competition, which supports the growth of future ice skating prospects, will serve as a cornerstone for discovering and nurturing promising ice skating talents who will lead the ice skating world in Busan and South Korea, and for expanding the base of ice skating sports.”


South Korea has achieved excellent results in international ice skating competitions such as the Olympics, World Championships, and Asian Games.


Representative athletes include world-renowned skaters such as figure skating queen Kim Yuna, speed skater Lee Sang-hwa, and the recently outstanding speed skater Kim Min-seon.
