A Total of 104 Stray Cat Fire Rescue Activities in the Past 3 Years... 17 Cases Occurred in December
[Asia Economy Reporter La Young-cheol] Gangwon Province is launching a 'Car Knock Campaign' to prevent accidents involving stray cats in car engine compartments during winter.
The Gangwon Fire Headquarters stated on the 9th, "In the past three years, there have been a total of 104 fire-related incidents caused by stray cats entering car engine compartments in Gangwon Province, with 17 cases (16.3%) occurring in December, the highest monthly figure."
According to the Fire Headquarters, if a stray cat is inside a car engine compartment while driving, it can lead to car malfunctions or make the vehicle inoperable.
Additionally, if a cat suddenly jumps out of the engine compartment while driving, it can cause roadkill accidents or secondary traffic accidents, so it is essential to check for stray cats before starting the vehicle.
To prevent accidents involving stray cats in car engine compartments, the following measures are necessary: knocking on the engine compartment before starting the engine, firmly closing car doors, honking the horn, parking the car facing forward, and spraying repellents inside the engine compartment.
Gangwon Fire Headquarters urged residents to pay attention to prevent secondary accidents caused by stray cats, as many stray cats seek warmth by entering car engine compartments during cold weather.
