New Confirmed Cases 62,734... Deaths 67, Increasing for Third Consecutive Day (Update)

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Young-won] As the number of new COVID-19 cases reached the 60,000 range, the number of new deaths increased for the third consecutive day.


According to the Central Disease Control Headquarters on the 9th, as of midnight, 62,734 new cases were added, bringing the total confirmed cases to 27,611,555.


The number of new cases on this day is the highest for a Thursday since September 9 (69,391 cases). It increased by 9,747 compared to a week ago on the 2nd (52,987 cases), and decreased by 2,519 compared to the previous day (65,253 cases).


The number of critically ill patients hospitalized was 442, an increase of 7 from the previous day. As of 5 p.m. the day before, the ICU bed occupancy rate was 33.1%, and the occupancy rate of moderate general beds in infectious disease specialized hospitals was 21.6%.


There were 67 new COVID-19 deaths added. The new deaths, which were 24 on the 6th, increased to 54 on the 7th, 61 on the 8th, and 67 on this day, marking three consecutive days of increase. The total cumulative deaths are 30,975, with a fatality rate of 0.11%.


As of midnight on this day, the winter vaccination rate was 24.1% for those aged 60 and over, and 36.8% for residents of infection-vulnerable facilities.
