[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gangseo-gu, Seoul (Mayor Kim Tae-woo) is recruiting 3,278 participants for the ‘2023 Senior Job and Social Activity Support Project’ until the 23rd.
The ‘Senior Job and Social Activity Support Project’ is a program that supports jobs and social activities so that seniors in the area can enjoy a healthy old age.
This year, 20 neighborhood community centers and 13 implementing agencies will operate 58 detailed projects in four categories: ▲Public Interest Activities (2,511 people) ▲Social Service Type (449 people) ▲Market Type (216 people) ▲Employment Referral Type (102 people).
The working period for public interest activities is 10 to 12 months (within 3 hours per day, at least 30 hours per month), and for social service type, 10 months (within 15 hours per week, 60 hours per month). Other types vary depending on the workplace conditions.
Applicants must be basic pension recipients aged 65 or older residing in Gangseo-gu. For some market type, employment referral type, and social service type projects, anyone aged 60 or older can apply.
Duplicate participation within the senior job project is not allowed. Recipients of livelihood benefits under the National Basic Livelihood Security Act, workplace health insurance subscribers, and long-term care insurance grade assessors are excluded from participation.
Those wishing to participate can bring an application form, resident registration certificate, and ID card to the neighborhood community center or the Gangseo Senior Club or apply through the ‘Bokjiro’ website. However, even those who apply through the ‘Bokjiro’ website must visit the implementing agency in person to submit supporting documents.

Gwangjin-gu (Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) is recruiting 2,387 participants for the 2023 Senior Job and Social Activity Support Project until the 23rd.
The ‘Senior Job and Social Activity Support Project’ helps seniors aged 65 or older, who make up more than 15% of the district’s population, achieve economic independence and supports various jobs and social activities so that seniors can live active and healthy lives.
For 2023, a total of 2,387 jobs are prepared: ▲Public Interest Type 1,768 ▲Social Service Type 310 ▲Market Type 183 ▲Employment Referral Type 126, which is 70 more than in 2022.
Selected seniors will engage in ▲‘Public Interest Type’ projects for community benefit such as community environment guardians, park management assistants, gateball environment maintenance, and coffee grounds recycling project teams ▲‘Social Service Type’ projects utilizing seniors’ activity capabilities such as childcare facility support and senior pension guide activities ▲‘Market Type’ projects supporting sales activities such as subway courier services ▲‘Employment Referral Type’ projects for private company employment such as exam proctor dispatch.
Public interest type projects are open to Gwangjin-gu residents aged 65 or older receiving the basic pension. Some market type, social service type, and employment referral type projects are open to residents aged 60 or older. However, livelihood benefit recipients under the National Basic Livelihood Security Act, workplace health insurance subscribers, long-term care insurance grade assessors (grades 1 to 5, cognitive support grade), and those currently participating in government or local government job projects are excluded from selection.
Applications are accepted until the 23rd. Applicants must bring a resident registration certificate, ID card, and COVID-19 vaccination confirmation documents and apply at the neighborhood community center, Gwangjin Senior Club, or designated implementing agencies such as the Korean Senior Citizens Association Gwangjin Branch.
Selection is based on criteria such as basic pension income recognition amount, household composition, and activity capability. Final selected candidates will be individually notified by the application agency.

Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yoo Sung-hoon) is recruiting 3,043 participants for the ‘2023 Senior Job and Social Activity Support Project’ from December 12 to 28 to help seniors lead active and healthy lives.
The recruitment fields include four types: ‘Public Interest Activities’ for community benefit, ‘Social Service Type’ providing services in areas needing social help, ‘Market Type’ operated with business profits, and ‘Employment Referral Type’ connecting those with job skills to demand sites.
Public interest activities are open to basic pension recipients aged 65 or older, recruiting 2,173 people for 20 projects such as subway station environment cleaning and elementary school lunch distribution. Social service type targets seniors aged 65 or older (some projects for those 60 or older), recruiting 386 people for 5 projects including community care, safety, and public facility administrative support.
Market type is open to those aged 60 or older, recruiting 356 people for 8 projects such as convenience stores and cafes. Employment referral type targets those aged 60 or older, recruiting 128 people through employment linkage with private companies.
Seniors wishing to participate should bring an ID card, resident registration certificate, passport-sized photo, basic pension recipient confirmation (for public interest activities only), and COVID-19 vaccination proof to visit implementing agencies such as Geumcheon Senior Club, Geumcheon Senior Welfare Center, Geumcheon Hoam Senior Welfare Center, Cheongdam Comprehensive Social Welfare Center, Geumcheon Nuri Comprehensive Social Welfare Center, and the Korean Senior Citizens Association Geumcheon Branch. However, livelihood benefit recipients under the National Basic Livelihood Security Act, those participating in two or more government or local government job projects, workplace health insurance subscribers (except employment referral type), and long-term care grade assessors (grades 1 to 5, cognitive support grade) cannot apply.
Participants are selected in order of highest scores based on selection criteria such as income level, and selected participants will be individually notified.

Dongjak-gu (Mayor Park Il-ha) is recruiting 2,497 participants for the ‘2023 Senior Job and Social Activity Support Project’ from the 12th to the 28th.
A total of 43 projects are divided into three types: ▲Public Interest Activities 1,973 ▲Social Service Type 326 ▲Market Type 198, recruiting a total of 2,497 participants.
Public interest activities target basic pension recipients aged 65 or older and include tasks such as senior civil service assistants, Nodeul Clean Volunteer Group, elementary school meal and after-school assistants, and meal delivery for solitary seniors (Nono Care).
Social service type involves seniors aged 65 or older supporting daycare centers, traffic safety guidance, and senior helpers at study rooms or local children’s centers.
Market type recruits those aged 60 or older capable of operating Dongjak Turtle Courier, local cooperative workshops, and coffee sales booths.
Residents wishing to participate can apply by visiting the neighborhood community center or designated implementing agencies (Korean Senior Citizens Association Dongjak Branch, Dongjak 50 Plus Center, etc., 9 locations) by the 28th.

Selected participants will start activities as early as January next year and must complete mandatory training on safety, etiquette, and job duties before starting work.

Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi) is recruiting 2,244 participants for the ‘Senior Social Activity Support Project’ until the 16th of this month.
The ‘Senior Social Activity Support Project,’ which provides various jobs suited to seniors’ abilities and aptitudes, was established to prevent income gaps for low-income seniors and to address welfare blind spots.
This year, 9 agencies will recruit a total of 2,244 participants in three types: ▲Public Interest Activities ▲Market Type ▲Social Service Type.
Public interest activities include community children’s center care, elementary school meal assistance, and senior center helpers, with activity fees of 270,000 KRW for those working more than 30 hours per month.
Market type includes silver cafes and gallery cafes. Activity fees are determined upon signing a labor contract.
The most popular social service type jobs increased significantly from 40 last year to 326 this year. These include child care helpers, study material room teachers, public administrative support teams, and village safety helpers, with activity fees up to approximately 710,000 KRW for 60 hours of work per month.
Applicants must be basic pension recipients aged 65 or older residing in Jungnang-gu. Some projects allow seniors aged 60 or older to participate. However, livelihood benefit recipients under the National Basic Livelihood Security Act, those participating in two or more other job projects, workplace health insurance subscribers, long-term care insurance grade assessors, and disqualified participants from last year’s senior job project are excluded.
Seniors wishing to participate should bring an ID card, resident registration certificate, and other required documents to the implementing agency or neighborhood community center by December 16. Final selections will be announced in January next year, and the activity period runs from February to December next year.

Dongdaemun-gu (Mayor Lee Pil-hyung) is operating the ‘2023 Senior Job and Social Activity Support Project’ to provide various jobs for seniors and support healthy old age.
A total of 2,341 seniors will participate in the 2023 senior job project. The district-run neighborhood community centers will engage 420 people in activities such as village clean helpers and street tree caretakers, while 1,921 seniors will be recruited for projects conducted by job implementing agencies.
There are five implementing agencies: Korean Senior Citizens Association Dongdaemun Branch, Dongdaemun Senior Comprehensive Social Welfare Center, Jangan Comprehensive Social Welfare Center, Dongdaemun Comprehensive Social Welfare Center, and Dongdaemun Senior Club.
By project type, there are 1,767 public interest activity jobs, 193 market type jobs, 303 social service type jobs, and 78 employment referral type jobs.
Public interest activity participants receive 270,000 KRW for 30 hours per month (within 3 hours per day). Social service type participants receive 594,000 KRW per month for 60 hours of work (excluding weekly holidays and annual leave allowances). Market and employment referral type participants receive salaries determined by labor contracts.
The application period is until the 16th. Applicants can apply by visiting their resident registration neighborhood community center or one of the five implementing agencies. After the application deadline, final participants will be selected based on a scoring system by project type, and results will be individually notified by the agencies. Seongdong-gu (Mayor Jung Won-oh) announced that it will recruit 1,732 participants for the ‘2023 Senior Job and Social Activity Support Project’ from the 8th to the 21st of this month.
The project, with a total budget of about 7.1 billion KRW, will recruit 1,415 people for 18 public interest activity projects such as elementary school meal helpers and school zone traffic guidance, 266 people for 18 social service type projects such as child care helpers and senior elevator safety teams, and 51 people for 3 market type projects such as coffee beverage manufacturing and sales, totaling 39 projects and 1,732 participants.
Eligibility by type: public interest activities require applicants to be basic pension recipients aged 65 or older residing in Seongdong-gu; social service type requires seniors aged 65 or older; market type requires seniors aged 60 or older.
Seniors wishing to participate should bring an ID card and apply in person at neighborhood community centers, the Korean Senior Citizens Association Seongdong Branch, Seongdong Senior Comprehensive Welfare Center, and 7 other implementing agencies by the 21st. Online applications are also possible via the ‘Senior Job Here’ or ‘Bokjiro’ websites.
Selection will be based on a scoring system considering income recognition amount, household head status, activity capability, and health condition, with higher scores selected first. The project will officially start in January next year.
