On the 12th, Indonesia Hosts South Korea-US-Japan Senior Officials Meeting on North Korea Sanctions Discussions

Discussing North Korean Missile Launches, 7th Nuclear Test, and Other North Korea Issues

[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo In-ho] The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on the 8th that South Korea-US, South Korea-Japan, and South Korea-US-Japan senior representatives for North Korea nuclear issues will hold consultations in Jakarta, Indonesia on the 12th and 13th.

The consultations will be attended by Kim Gun, Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Office for Peace and Diplomacy on the Korean Peninsula, Sung Kim, US Special Representative for North Korea, and Takehiro Funakoshi, Director of the Asia and Oceania Bureau at Japan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.


This will be the first face-to-face meeting of the South Korea-US-Japan North Korea nuclear representatives in over three months since their meeting in Tokyo on September 7.


The representatives of the three countries are expected to exchange views and discuss countermeasures regarding North Korea's successive missile launches and the possibility of a seventh nuclear test, as well as related sanctions.


The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated, "Through face-to-face consultations, the representatives of the three countries will share assessments of the recent situation on the Korean Peninsula and hold in-depth discussions on the issue of North Korea's denuclearization."
