Police Decide Not to Prosecute 'Yonsei University Cleaning Workers' On-Campus Protest'

"Not a Violation of Class Rights"
Only Charged with Violation of the Gypsies Act

[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Gyumin] The cleaning workers at Yonsei University demanded improvements in their working conditions and held a protest on campus, which the police have determined did not infringe on students' right to attend classes.

On the 8th, the Seoul Seodaemun Police Station announced that it had decided not to indict the Yonsei University cleaning workers who were accused of obstructing business on the 1st. Considering the time, method, and means of the assembly, analyzing noise measurement data and photos, and reviewing precedents and legal principles, the police explained that it is difficult to conclude that the right to attend classes was infringed. However, the police regarded the unreported assembly on campus as a violation of the Assembly and Demonstration Act and sent the case for prosecution without detention.

Earlier, three Yonsei University students, including Lee Dongsu, filed a criminal complaint in May, claiming that their right to attend classes was infringed due to noise from the protest on campus, and filed a civil lawsuit in June.
