Naver Webtoon 'Lookism' Premieres Globally as Netflix Series

[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] The Netflix series "Lookism," based on the Naver Webtoon, will be released simultaneously worldwide on the 8th. It is the first animation produced and streamed by Netflix utilizing webtoon intellectual property (IP).

The original webtoon "Lookism" is a school drama about a protagonist full of complexes who one day gains two bodies with perfect appearances. It was discovered in 2014 in Naver Webtoon's amateur creation space "Challenge Comics" and has remained among the top ranks in popularity on Naver Webtoon for eight years. It is available in nine languages overseas, including English, Japanese, and Thai. The global cumulative views have reached 9.1 billion.

The Netflix series of the same name was first unveiled as a new lineup at the Netflix global fan event "Tudum Japan" last September. In Japan, a country renowned for animation, the Japanese dubbed version cast veteran voice actors such as Yoshitsugu Matsuoka and Daisuke Ono, who appeared in "Demon Slayer" and "Attack on Titan."

No Seung-yeon, Head of Naver Webtoon Global IP Business, stated, "Animation adds dynamic effects and vivid voices, offering a new way to enjoy webtoons. We expect this to be an opportunity to introduce webtoon content not only to original fans but also to global animation fans."
