[Asia Economy Reporter Donghoon Jeong] Doosan Logistics Solutions (DLS) has secured the largest logistics center construction project in its history.

On the 8th, DLS announced that it was selected as the preferred negotiator for the construction project of the Daiso Yangju Hub Center. The contract amount is approximately 75 billion KRW.

The Yangju Hub Center, to be newly built in the Eunnam Industrial Complex in Yangju-si, Gyeonggi-do, will have a total floor area of 173,421㎡ (about 52,460 pyeong) and four above-ground floors. DLS will provide a turnkey logistics automation solution covering the entire process, including design and engineering consulting, ▲establishment of state-of-the-art automated facilities ▲construction of an integrated logistics information system that consolidates operation, control, and real-time monitoring of all logistics center equipment ▲and maintenance after the logistics center’s completion. The expected completion date is June 2025.

The Yangju Hub Center will apply cutting-edge products and technologies such as Knapp’s Multi-Shuttle, Beumer’s Cross Belt Sorter, Goods to Person (GTP) system, and Pick to Conveyor (PTC) system.

The Multi-Shuttle uses an automatic adjustable gripper to accurately pick and transport products of various sizes, and it automatically operates horizontally and vertically in high-rise storage spaces, enabling product inbound and outbound at world-class speeds. DLS plans to integrate the Multi-Shuttle with the GTP and PTC systems for enhanced utilization.

By installing the GTP system, products dispatched from the shuttle are automatically delivered to workers, improving picking efficiency and worker convenience. The PTC system, applied domestically for the first time in this project, is an advanced system that automatically handles inbound and outbound of medium-sized boxes using the shuttle. Previously, medium-sized boxes were manually handled by workers, so the PTC system can dramatically improve operational efficiency by enhancing space utilization within the logistics center and enabling faster logistics processing.

The Cross Belt Sorter is a conveyor-based sorting system capable of sorting products by delivery destination at high speed, even if the logistics volume increases by about 40% compared to the required volume.

Additionally, DLS will develop and apply a Warehouse Management System (WMS) that integrates and manages the entire logistics process of the Yangju Hub Center, including inventory, picking, and shipping. A dashboard will also be built to integrate and monitor in real time the processes and indicators of all logistics centers owned by Daiso.

Kim Hwansung, CEO of DLS, said, "This project is not only the largest order in DLS’s history but also the largest area for a single company’s self-operated logistics center in Korea. It is an achievement optimized to customer needs for automation solutions that require a high level of software capability." He added, "Based on the experience from this project, we will lead the market by supplying cutting-edge smart logistics solutions optimized for the needs of various distribution and e-commerce companies."
