Sonid, Participates in the '2022 Korea Industrial Technology R&D Expo'

[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Hyowon] SonyD (CEO Choi Simyeong), a KOSDAQ-listed company, announced on the 8th that it participated in the 2022 Korea Industrial Technology R&D Exhibition to promote the excellence of vehicle display materials jointly developed with national research institutes.

The 2022 Korea Industrial Technology R&D Exhibition is an event where outstanding research and development (R&D) achievements supported by the government can be seen at a glance. It is held from the 7th to the 9th at COEX in Gangnam-gu, Seoul. This event exhibits 268 excellent products and technologies from 149 institutions and companies developed through industrial technology R&D support by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.

At this event, SonyD showcased the vehicle display material OCR (Optical Clear Resin) electronic material jointly developed over the past four years with government-funded research institutes such as the Korea Automotive Technology Institute, Korea Research Institute of Chemical Technology, and Korea Institute of Industrial Technology. This UV-curable optical clear resin is used in vehicle displays such as navigation systems and dashboards, requiring durability, reliability, cold resistance, and heat resistance even under extreme environments like summer and winter. SonyD has passed all reliability evaluations by government agencies related to this material.

With the advancement of IT technology, artificial intelligence (AI) and electronic components technologies have been installed in automobiles, leading to rapid growth in the vehicle display market that composes vehicle dashboards. This is because the amount of information to be delivered to passengers has increased, and its quality has become important. According to the global market research firm Omdia, the vehicle display market is expected to grow from $8.2 billion (10.84 trillion KRW) in 2019 to $10.5 billion (13.88 trillion KRW) by 2023.

Choi Simyeong, CEO of SonyD, said, “The vehicle display development project with government agencies has yielded meaningful results,” and added, “We will improve the material to a level that can be supplied to automobile parts companies through additional research processes.”

Meanwhile, SonyD, as a global leader in material components business, has developed and supplied various electronic materials with over 40 years of accumulated experience and technology in display fields such as LCD and OLED. It possesses differentiated R&D competitiveness in semiconductor photoresists, precision chemicals for displays, and secondary battery business sectors, and aims to become a 'game changer' in the material components industry by integrating its own direct manufacturing system.
