[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Seoyul] The amendment to the maintenance plan for the Sinchon area (Mapo) urban maintenance-type redevelopment district, where maintenance projects are underway in five zones, has passed the Urban Planning Committee review. The Seoul Metropolitan Government expects this approval to revitalize private-led maintenance projects in the area and enhance public interest.

On the 8th, the city announced that it held the '13th Urban Planning Committee' the previous day and approved the amended maintenance plan for the 'Sinchon area (Mapo) urban maintenance-type redevelopment district' in Nogosan-dong and Sinsu-dong, Mapo-gu. This district was designated in August 2014, and over eight years later, five out of the total 36 individual project zones within the district are currently undergoing maintenance projects.

This maintenance plan amendment is a reorganization to realize the changed urban management goals according to the higher-level plan, the 'Seoul City Urban Residential Environment Maintenance Basic Plan,' and to reflect changes in local conditions. The plan revision focused on incorporating local residents' opinions to activate future private-led maintenance projects and increase public interest.

In particular, the key points include ▲adjustment of project zones considering project feasibility ▲rational adjustment of necessary local infrastructure such as parking lots and parks ▲adjustment of infrastructure to improve the pedestrian environment.

First, the city rationally adjusted the lot plans considering local residents' opinions and project feasibility, abolished cultural facilities with low local demand, and encouraged various public contribution methods such as building donations when necessary within the area.

Considering the terrain conditions of the existing Small Park 1 and parking lot, the city plans to expand the park and improve residents' convenience by utilizing underground parking and the upper park in a three-dimensional manner through overlapping decisions. Additionally, Small Park 2 will be converted into a cultural park and provided as a local convenience facility linked to the Gyeongui Line Forest Trail neighborhood park.

Furthermore, a pedestrian network connecting to the Gyeongui Line Forest Trail will be created, and street activation will be induced by setting activation zones in the low-rise street areas.

With the amended maintenance plan approved, the city expects that lifestyle service functions tailored to the characteristics of the surrounding university areas will be strengthened, private-led maintenance projects within the Sinchon area will be revitalized, and urban functions will be restored along with improvements in the urban environment.
