Government: "Work Commencement Orders Needed for Steel and Petrochemicals... To Be Submitted at Cabinet Meeting on the 8th"

[Asia Economy Sejong=Reporter Kwon Haeyoung] The government plans to hold an emergency Cabinet meeting on the 8th and issue a work commencement order in relation to the Cargo Solidarity general strike.

According to the Ministry of Economy and Finance on the 7th, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance Choo Kyung-ho held a meeting with related ministries in the afternoon and decided accordingly.

The Ministry of Economy and Finance stated, "The related ministries checked the situation in the steel and petrochemical sectors and agreed on the necessity of a work commencement order," adding, "It was decided to submit the matter for discussion at the emergency Cabinet meeting tomorrow."

Accordingly, an emergency Cabinet meeting presided over by Prime Minister Han Duck-soo is scheduled to be held the following day. Previously, the government held a Cabinet meeting the day before but did not place the agenda regarding an additional work commencement order on the table.

Currently, the refining sector has returned to normal shipment levels, whereas the steel sector is experiencing significant damage. The steel industry is also considering reducing production if inventory accumulates due to decreased shipments.
