[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Hyunjin] China has allowed asymptomatic and mild COVID-19 cases to choose home quarantine in principle. Additionally, most mandatory COVID-19 testing requirements in public facilities will be abolished.
According to Bloomberg and other sources on the 7th, the Chinese State Council's epidemic prevention mechanism announced 10 optimized epidemic prevention measures including these changes. Previously, asymptomatic or mild cases had to enter separate quarantine facilities in China, but now they are given the option to isolate at home.
The State Council also abolished the requirement to present a negative PCR test result when traveling between regions. This effectively ends the routine mass PCR testing conducted in cities or specific administrative areas with high infection rates.
The scope and frequency of PCR testing will be further reduced, and except for special locations such as elderly care homes and elementary, middle, and high schools, presenting a negative PCR test certificate upon entry will no longer be required. 'High-risk areas' with no new infections for five consecutive days will have lockdowns lifted promptly.
Following a top leadership meeting on the 11th of last month, which emphasized 'precision epidemic prevention' and announced 20 optimized prevention guidelines, local governments have successively introduced relaxed epidemic control measures.
