[Mokpo=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Jeong Hyeong-seok] Mokpo City, Jeollanam-do, selected four final locations as the ‘2023 Mokpo Eutteum Matjip’ on the 1st.
The city decided on the Eutteum Matjip based on strict criteria and fair procedures, including clean and delicious food using fresh ingredients, distinctive specialty dishes, and hygiene management status.
All evaluations were conducted by the Mokpo Eutteum Matjip Selection Committee, composed of experts from the food, dining, and tourism academia as well as private specialists, through a first document screening and a second on-site evaluation.
Among the 30 locations that applied during the public recruitment in September, the city conducted a first document screening to check for administrative dispositions and disqualifications, selecting 10 businesses that passed. Then, a second on-site evaluation was carried out on six categories: taste, local characteristics, service, hygiene, atmosphere, and business philosophy. The final selection was made through the Mokpo Eutteum Matjip Selection Committee.
Meanwhile, to ensure systematic management and substantial operation of the Eutteum Matjip, inspections of existing Eutteum Matjip locations were conducted from October to November. To maintain fairness and transparency, the inspections were carried out together with professional food hygiene monitors. Through comprehensive surveys and re-inspections, five locations were excluded from the Eutteum Matjip list.
The city plans to conduct annual inspections and strict management of the Eutteum Matjip to promote Mokpo’s flavors nationwide and support these representative restaurants in leading the establishment of a high-quality food culture.
A city official stated, “We will manage the Eutteum Matjip, which represents the taste of Mokpo, systematically and thoroughly to strengthen Mokpo’s gourmet tourism competitiveness.”
