[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Wook] Miryang City in Gyeongnam Province received an institutional commendation after being selected as an exemplary case in the 2022 National Balanced Development Project Evaluation by the Presidential Committee on National Balanced Development (hereinafter referred to as the Balanced Development Committee).

The event held on the 6th at the Inter-Burgo Hotel in Suseong-gu, Daegu, was attended by about 250 people, including Woo Dong-gi, Chairman of the Balanced Development Committee, Jeon Yoon-jong, President of the Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology Evaluation and Planning, and officials from related local governments.

The Balanced Development Committee comprehensively evaluates the validity of projects, appropriateness of implementation systems, achievement of goals, impact on regional economic development and local communities, and contribution to balanced development for autonomous account projects promoted by each local government under the comprehensive subsidy projects supported by the Balanced Special Account, selecting exemplary cases accordingly.

Miryang City was the only city among the cities, counties, and districts in Gyeongnam Province to be selected with the case titled “Establishing the Foundation for Resident Autonomy through Economic Independence of Miryang Forest Village” under the General Rural Agricultural and Fishery Village Development Project.

Along with this institutional commendation, former chairman Kim Chun-taek of Miryang Forest Village, selected as a civilian awardee, was recognized for his significant contributions to securing visitors and achieving economic independence through voluntary and active project promotion, including operating a children's water playground, hosting the Forest Autumn Music Festival, and running a village school.

The city created basic living infrastructure such as Cheongdo-myeon Eoullim Madang, a children's playground, a multipurpose stadium, and an outdoor experiential education center through the Cheongdo Regional Unit Comprehensive Maintenance Project, and supported detailed projects such as village coordinator training, smart rural coordinator training, and revitalization consulting. As a result, it received high evaluations for contributing to income increase and community recovery in the Cheongdo-myeon area.

Mayor Park Il-ho said, “Administrative support for the General Rural Agricultural and Fishery Village Development Project met with residents' voluntary participation and efforts, leading to the honor of being selected as an exemplary case in the 2022 National Balanced Development Project Evaluation,” adding, “We will continue to provide proactive administrative support for rural economic independence and revitalization of local communities.”
