Gwangju Nam-gu Warms Winter Cold in 'Ongi Tent'

Gwangju Nam-gu Warms Winter Cold in 'Ongi Tent'

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] Nam-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 7th that "to help residents warm their bodies curled up from the winter cold on the streets, warm tents will be installed and operated in various locations within the district."

Nam-gu plans to install warm tents in 21 locations around major tourist sites and bus stops within the district, considering several variables such as ensuring sidewalks are at least 4 meters wide and not interfering with the business operations of nearby stores.

The main locations include the entrance of Yangnim-dong Penguin Village, the bus stops at Namgwangju Nonghyup and the entrance of Mudeung Market, Dongshin Oriental Medicine Hospital, and the bus stops in front of Wolsan 5-dong, Baegun Post Office, and Daeseong Elementary School.

In particular, to protect the health of the elderly who are vulnerable to cold waves and to minimize the time residents are exposed to the winter cold while waiting for buses to travel to other areas, warm tents will be primarily installed in places with high pedestrian traffic and floating populations.

The warm tents will be made with dimensions of 2 meters wide and 3 meters long, and are expected to be operated throughout various locations in the district starting from mid-this month.

A Nam-gu official stated, "We plan to operate the warm tents until mid-March next year to ensure residents do not experience inconvenience in their daily lives during the winter season."

"While staying here briefly, residents can also share various stories with each other, so we believe it will become a warm and cozy gathering place filled with warmth."
