Gwangju Bukbu Fire Department Urges Reporting of Illegal Activities Related to Firefighting Facilities

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] On the 7th, the Gwangju Northern Fire Station announced that it urges active reporting when illegal acts such as closure of fire safety facilities and emergency exits are confirmed, in order to establish autonomous safety management including the maintenance and management of fire safety facilities in lodging facilities and multi-use establishments.

Anyone who witnesses illegal acts can report them, and within 48 hours of witnessing, they can submit a separate report form with supporting evidence by visiting, mail, fax, or information communication network to the head of the relevant fire station.

The reporting targets include cultural and assembly facilities, large sales facilities, transportation facilities, lodging facilities, entertainment facilities, complex buildings (limited to those including sales and lodging facilities), and multi-use establishments.

The main illegal acts include △ closure (locking) of emergency exits and other evacuation facilities △ damage to fire doors, evacuation stairs, and other evacuation facilities △ placing objects or installing obstacles around evacuation facilities such as stairs and corridors.

Rewards are paid to reporters after verification of illegal acts through on-site inspection and review by the reward payment review committee. The reward amount paid is 50,000 KRW in cash or Onnuri gift certificates for the first report, and the total reward amount for reports by the same person cannot exceed 200,000 KRW per month and 2,000,000 KRW per year.

Kim Gwan-ho, Director of the Prevention and Safety Division, said, “Emergency exits are the doors of life that allow quick evacuation in case of fire,” and urged “related parties to continuously pay attention and strive for maintenance and management.”
