[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Hyowon] Dragonfly announced on the 7th that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with CJ ENM to collaborate on entering new content business ventures.
Under this agreement, the two companies will share technology and business strategies using Dragonfly's flagship game IP, 'Special Force,' and jointly promote projects for content development including ▲game business ▲webtoons ▲dramas and films.
Additionally, Dragonfly plans to work with writers affiliated with CJ ENM to expand the original solid worldview by incorporating new stories and planning and developing various characters. The jointly developed 'story IP' works will be utilized diversely by both companies to expand their portfolios.
Founded in 1990, Dragonfly developed the world's first online-based FPS game 'Karma Online' in 2002, and later popularized FPS games in Korea with 'Special Force.' The first-person shooter (FPS) Special Force is recognized as pioneering the online FPS era in South Korea. Special Force, which has accumulated over 100 million members worldwide, is serviced not only domestically but also in countries such as the Philippines, Thailand, China, and Taiwan.
According to the Korea Creative Content Agency, the domestic content industry's sales scale is estimated to reach 146.9 trillion KRW this year, a 7.4% increase compared to the previous year.
Won Myungsoo, CEO of Dragonfly, said, “We look forward to producing great works through this MOU with CJ ENM and will reveal them as soon as possible,” adding, “We are pursuing diversification of the IP business through synergies from collaborations not only with CJ ENM but also with various other companies.”
