Goseong-gun Ranks Among Lowest Suicide Rates in Province... Excellence Awarded for 3 Consecutive Years Goseong County in Gyeongnam was selected as an outstanding institution for the Gyeongnam Carbon Monoxide Poisoning Suicide Prevention Support Project.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Song Jong-gu] Goseong-gun, Gyeongnam Province, has been selected as an excellent institution for the Gyeongnam Carbon Monoxide Poisoning Suicide Prevention Support Project.

Goseong-gun, which records the lowest suicide rate in the province, has been selected as an excellent institution for the third time following 2019 and 2020, effectively playing the role of a safety belt protecting the lives of its residents.

The carbon monoxide poisoning suicide prevention project is conducted by mental health welfare centers in each local government to prevent suicide incidents using charcoal briquettes by informing charcoal briquette retailers and lodging businesses of the risks of suicide incidents and early detecting high-risk suicide groups.

This year, Goseong-gun distributed charcoal briquette storage boxes to 16 charcoal briquette retailers to enable non-display sales, and if the seller judges the purchaser to be a high-risk suicide group by confirming the purchaser’s intent, they connect them to the mental health welfare center, which received high marks in the suicide prevention evaluation.

In addition, 64 carbon monoxide detectors were installed in 32 lodging businesses, and a network was established to quickly respond to gas poisoning accidents by linking the detectors to the mental health welfare center when activated.

Furthermore, 28 charcoal briquette retailers were designated as Life Love Practice Stores, implementing various policies such as ▲ distributing suicide prevention posters and leaflets for charcoal briquettes ▲ suicide prevention education for sellers ▲ connecting suspected suicide incident cases among charcoal briquette purchasers to the mental health welfare center.

Mayor Lee Sang-geun said, “I believe that Goseong-gun’s efforts to prevent suicide incidents that can occur due to a momentary misjudgment have been recognized by this excellent institution selection,” and added, “We will continue to support not only suicide prevention but also the mental health of residents to prevent harmful thoughts.”
