Gochang-gun Receives Cultural Heritage Administration Award for Cultural Heritage Signboard Improvement Project

[Gochang=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jaegil] Gochang-gun, Jeonbuk, was selected as an excellent case in the ‘2022 Cultural Heritage Signboard Improvement Project’ conducted by the Cultural Heritage Administration targeting local governments nationwide, following 2019 and 2020, and received the Cultural Heritage Administration Commissioner’s Award and a prize of 2 million won.

According to the county on the 7th, the ‘Cultural Heritage Signboard Improvement Project’ is a project promoted by the Cultural Heritage Administration since 2018 with the goal of creating signboards that allow anyone to understand the value of cultural heritage, interesting signboards reflecting various stories, and easy-to-understand texts that the public can directly participate in.

As a result of a comprehensive evaluation of the completeness of cultural heritage signboard texts and improvement efforts targeting local governments nationwide by the Cultural Heritage Administration, Gochang-gun was evaluated as an excellent institution in the basic local government category in the ‘Cultural Heritage Signboard Improvement Project.’

This year, Gochang-gun refurbished a total of 10 signboards, including Gochang Eupseong (a nationally designated historic site).

The newly refurbished cultural heritage signboards aimed to be easily understood by anyone.

To this end, the county formed an advisory group consisting of related experts, local residents, and students of various ages and occupations to review the signboard texts.

Difficult content was simplified, shifting significantly from ‘explanation’-centered to ‘understanding’-focused.

In addition, the cultural heritage signboards feature characteristic photos, illustrations, and event timelines of the cultural heritage to ensure that anyone can easily understand the cultural heritage without difficulty.

Oh Misook, head of the Culture and Arts Division of Gochang-gun, said, “We will continue to steadily promote the cultural heritage signboard improvement project to enhance the value of cultural heritage and actively inform tourists visiting ‘World Heritage City Gochang’ about the county’s proud cultural heritage.”
