Gangjin Celadon Festival Transforms into a Unique Winter Season Festival

[Gangjin=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-su] Gangjin County in Jeollanam-do will hold the 51st Gangjin Celadon Festival for seven days from February 23 to March 1 next year.

The county held the Gangjin Celadon Festival Standing Committee on the 2nd and decided the festival dates through discussions.

To gather various opinions on the timing of the event, a residents' briefing session was held on September 1, and a survey was conducted. As 87% of the attendees supported holding a winter festival, preparations for the festival schedule and programs have begun in earnest.

Programs reflecting seasonal characteristics have been planned, including ‘Fire Pit 9292,’ a space like a camping village where families can roast snacks together; ‘Hwamoek (和睦) Wish Burning,’ a campfire event to burn New Year wishes; ‘Gangjin Snow Park,’ a winter-themed photo zone and play area for children featuring an igloo, snowman ball pool, and penguin photo zone; and a winter representative sport, the ‘Snow Sledding Area.’

In particular, night landscape lighting called ‘Light Sculptures’ targeting the MZ generation will provide visual attractions for SNS uploads.

Experience events designed to attract children's interest will also be prepared, such as the Global Daedong Kite Flying, Find the Golden Celadon, Hwamoek Kiln Equipped Challenge, Snowlu Music Box, Celadon Wheel Experience, and Coiling Experience.

After the opening ceremony on February 23, a variety of performance programs will be held, including a live broadcast of the opening celebration show, trot madanggeuk (traditional Korean musical play), air dome busking, and stages by cultural and artistic groups. A prize event will also take place.

Gangjin County Governor Kang Jin-won emphasized, “If we target the winter off-season market and provide unique attractions exclusive to Gangjin, there is a good chance to establish this as a representative winter festival,” adding, “We will create a special festival with unique attractions that overcome the seasonal limitations of winter by utilizing fire and light.”
