[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] Busan City has designated the period from December 5 to 17 as the ‘Intensive Guidance and Inspection Period for Accommodation Businesses’ in accordance with the resumption of the 17th Busan Fireworks Festival. The city is conducting focused guidance and inspections on accommodation businesses throughout the city, especially in Suyeong-gu and Haeundae-gu, which are near the event venues.

This intensive guidance and inspection is being carried out to successfully hold the 17th Busan Fireworks Festival on the 17th by preventing and responding to unfair trading practices in accommodation businesses, similar to those during the BTS concert held in October to support the bid for the 2030 Busan World Expo.

The main inspection items include ▲posting of price lists and compliance with posted prices ▲compliance with the Public Health Control Act such as room cleanliness, and ▲guidance activities for accommodation businesses such as refraining from excessive accommodation fee increases and requests for reservation changes or unilateral cancellations targeting existing reservation customers.

The inspection team is composed of public health officers from autonomous districts and counties, honorary public health inspectors, etc. Suyeong-gu and Haeundae-gu, near the event venues, plan to conduct joint inspections with Busan City if necessary.

Along with operating this inspection period, the city also requested active measures such as sending official letters and notification messages to accommodation business operators in Suyeong-gu and Haeundae-gu, asking for cooperation in stabilizing accommodation fees and complying with regulations.

In response, Suyeong-gu operates its own online Unfair Trade Reporting Center through the Suyeong-gu website and is actively conducting guidance activities through on-site verification by the inspection team and administrative actions on reported cases.

Additionally, Suyeong-gu has been striving to establish a fair and trusted accommodation culture by signing a business agreement in June with the Nambu Police Station, Nambu Fire Station, and Suyeong Tax Office to eradicate illegal shared accommodation activities through platforms such as Airbnb and conducting joint crackdowns.

These four institutions have identified 114 violators through joint crackdowns as of October.

Busan City also held a meeting with the Busan Accommodation Business Association on December 1 to discuss measures to stabilize accommodation fees for the successful hosting of the 17th Busan Fireworks Festival, requested active cooperation from related industries, and candidly listened to difficulties and suggestions from accommodation business stakeholders.

Jo Bong-su, Director of the Citizen Health Bureau of Busan City, said, “We will operate this intensive guidance and inspection period thoroughly to enhance Busan’s city brand as an international tourist city and minimize citizen inconvenience caused by accommodation businesses. We plan to take strict measures against violations detected during the inspections and devise various measures to realize ‘Busan, a happy city that empowers its citizens.’”
