[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Young-won] Seoul National University Hospital-operated Seoul Metropolitan Boramae Medical Center announced on the 6th that Professor Han Mi-seon, in charge of infection control (Department of Pediatrics), received the Prime Minister's Commendation for Infectious Disease Control at the '2022 Infectious Disease Control Conference' held at the Welfare Hall of Osong Bio-Health Science Complex.

Earlier, the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency conducted a public call for nominations for the '2022 Infectious Disease Control Merit Awards' to recognize individuals who contributed to national infectious disease prevention and management this year. Through a subsequent evaluation process, the recipient of the Prime Minister's Commendation for Infectious Disease Control was finally selected.

In this selection process, Professor Han was recognized for her contributions to preventing infections in children and adolescents, treating approximately 1,200 COVID-19 patients, dedicating herself to protecting public life, actively conducting research related to pediatric and adolescent COVID-19, providing scientific knowledge on the subject, and contributing to the realization of public health interests.

Additionally, Professor Han was acknowledged for her role in establishing guidelines for responding to COVID-19 in children and adolescents and for participating extensively in education for healthcare professionals to enhance understanding of pediatric and adolescent COVID-19, leading to her selection as the recipient of the Prime Minister's Commendation.

Professor Han said, "I am very pleased to have my efforts in managing and preventing COVID-19 in children and adolescents recognized," and added, "I will do my best to contribute to the advancement of infectious disease control in children and adolescents, including COVID-19, taking this Prime Minister's Commendation as an opportunity."

Meanwhile, Professor Han graduated from Seoul National University College of Medicine, earned her master's and doctoral degrees from the same graduate school, and is currently serving as a professor in the Department of Pediatrics and in charge of infection control at Boramae Medical Center. In October last year, she received the 'Seokcheon Academic Award (Paper Division)' from the Korean Pediatric Society for her research achievements on 'Clinical Characteristics and Viral RNA Detection Analysis of Pediatric and Adolescent COVID-19 Patients.'
