Ministry of Employment Conducts Search and Seizure at KCC Construction Headquarters Over 'Electrocution Fatality' Incident

The Ministry of Employment and Labor has launched a search and seizure operation targeting the headquarters of KCC Construction, where a worker electrocuted to death, among other locations.

According to the Ministry on the 6th, the Gangwon branch of the Ministry of Employment and Labor began conducting search and seizure operations from 9:30 a.m. at three locations: the KCC Construction headquarters in Seoul, the office at the construction site within the KCC Munmak Factory in Wonju, Gangwon Province, and the headquarters of subcontractor Samwon ENC in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province.

This search and seizure is related to the incident on September 21, where a subcontractor worker died from electrocution while replacing equipment in the transformer room at the KCC Munmak Factory expansion construction site located in Munmak-eup, Wonju, Gangwon Province, which is being constructed by KCC Construction.

The Ministry plans to investigate whether the safety and health management officer implemented specific safety measures under the Industrial Safety and Health Act to prevent electrocution accidents, and whether the management officer lawfully fulfilled the safety and health assurance obligations under the Serious Accidents Punishment Act to identify and control electrocution risks during electrical work.

The Ministry emphasized, "While doing our best to support workplaces to prevent serious accidents, we will take strict measures against serious accidents caused by neglecting foreseeable risks inherent to the nature of the work."
