[Asia Economy Reporter Minyoung Kim] Won Hee-ryong, Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, recently warned the Cargo Solidarity Union to "stop their gangster-like behavior immediately" after they put up banners targeting truck drivers who did not join the strike, stating they would "die on the streets."
On the 5th, Minister Won shared a photo of a banner under the name of the Chungnam Western Tank Branch on his Facebook, revealing this situation. The banner displayed the message: "You unloyal XXXs who are working right now. Today, you will die on the streets."
He also shared a text message sent by an anonymous truck driver. The message pleaded, "Minister, please save us. We suffered greatly during the strike in June, and the losses were enormous," and added, "While loading products onto our truck, we were caught by the Cargo Solidarity Union and had to unload everything again. Is our country really a free democratic nation?"
Earlier, Minister Won wrote on another Facebook post, "After the work commencement order, as truck drivers showed clear signs of returning over the weekend, now the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions' Construction Union is trying to paralyze construction sites," and stated, "The KCTU is a group deluded by the absurd misconception that they can stop the world with their organized power whenever they want."
He also shared a video of an unidentified person shooting steel balls at non-unionized cargo vehicles, criticizing, "This is truly cruel. Shooting steel balls at colleagues?does this mean that the Cargo Solidarity Union does not care about the lives of their fellow workers as long as they protect their own interests?"
Minister Won labeled the Cargo Solidarity Union as gangsters and emphasized, "The Yoon Seok-yeol administration will firmly establish order against these gangsters who act as if the labor sector is their own world, and will establish labor rule of law where labor-management relations are governed fairly and reasonably according to laws and principles."
