Jeongeup-si 'Night Event for Athletes with Disabilities' Successfully Concluded

[Jeongeup=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jaegil] Jeongeup City in Jeonbuk announced on the 6th that it held the Night of Disabled Athletes event on the 5th to commend those who have led the development of sports for the disabled and to encourage disabled athletes.


The event was attended by Mayor Lee Hak-su, who is also the president of the Jeongeup Disabled Sports Association, Go Kyung-yoon, chairman of the Jeongeup City Council, and city and provincial council members. National Assembly member Yoon Jun-byung sent congratulatory greetings via video.


At the event, plaques of merit and appreciation were presented to 13 individuals who have worked hard for the development of disabled sports through active activities in various fields.


There was also a time to share the achievements of the athletes and the Disabled Sports Association over the past year.


The Jeongeup Disabled Sports Association team ranked 2nd overall at the 2022 Jeollabuk-do Disabled Sports Competition and won 5 gold, 3 silver, and 3 bronze medals at the 42nd National Disabled Sports Competition.


In particular, they achieved excellent results, including setting a new world record at the National Disabled Sports Competition in the 50-meter pistol shooting event, raising the pride and status of Jeongeup citizens.


Lee Hak-su, president of the Disabled Sports Association, said, “I thank all the athletes who brought honor to Jeongeup by achieving excellent results despite COVID-19 and difficult conditions,” and added, “I hope this event will be a place of harmony to recall joyful moments and encourage each other.”
