'Geumhonryeong, Joseon Marriage Ban'... Now as an Audio Drama on Millie's Library

[Asia Economy Reporter Seo Mideum] The reading platform Millie’s Library announced on the 6th that it has released a new audio drama titled “Geumhonryeong, Joseon Marriage Ban Order” as part of its secondary content expansion utilizing web novel IPs.

Based on the web novel of the same name written by author Cheon Ji-hye, the work is a delightful palace scam story about a king who, after losing his crown princess and issuing a marriage ban order, encounters a con artist claiming to be able to possess the deceased crown princess. Voice actors Park Yo-han, Shin On-yu, and Chae An-seok star in the lead roles, with veteran voice actors Jo Kyung-ah and Jung Hoon-seok participating in narration.

The series consists of a total of 60 episodes, each approximately 25 minutes long, and is released twice weekly on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Episodes 1 through 3 were released on the 6th. Free members can also enjoy the work.

“Geumhonryeong, Joseon Marriage Ban Order” has been widely loved from the original work to its secondary adaptations. First released as a web novel in 2015, it was adapted into a webtoon in 2019 and was serialized with a rating of 9.9 on a leading domestic webtoon platform until last year, enjoying great popularity.

Starting from the 9th, it will also be broadcast as a drama on MBC starring actors Park Joo-hyun and Kim Young-dae. On Millie’s Library, users can access not only the audio drama but also the entire original novel series of the work.

To commemorate the release of the new audio drama, Millie’s Library is holding a review event until the 18th. Listeners who hear episode 1 of the “Geumhonryeong, Joseon Marriage Ban Order” audio drama and leave a review will be entered into a draw to win Starbucks gift cards for 100 people.

Kim Tae-hyung, head of content business at Millie’s Library, said, “Regardless of the type of content?books, webtoons, movies?the power that ultimately draws people in is the story. Millie’s Library is introducing secondary content such as audio dramas to broaden the touchpoints where more people can encounter and fall in love with story-based books,” adding, “We are flexibly expanding the concept of reading, which was limited to reading printed text, to fit the digital media environment.”
