[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Lee Gyehwa] The national football team, led by coach Paulo Bento, lost 1-4 to Brazil in the World Cup Round of 16 match at 4 a.m. on the 6th (Korean time). Although South Korea conceded four goals in the first half, they did not collapse easily. Baek Seung-ho showed resilience by scoring a goal in the 31st minute of the second half.

Coach Bento substituted Hwang In-beom (Olympiacos) and brought in Baek Seung-ho in the second half. Baek struck the ball strongly with his left foot from the center of the arc after it deflected off a defender. The ball was drawn into the corner of the goal.

The expected goals (xG) value of this goal was only 0.03. Expected goals is a metric derived by analyzing data such as player position, distance to goal, shooting angle, and pass type. A value of 0.03 means that out of 100 shots taken from that position, only about 3 would be expected to score.

UK BBC praises it as an "amazing goal"

Chris Sutton, a commentator for the British public broadcaster BBC, expressed admiration for Baek Seung-ho’s goal. He praised, "It was an amazing goal. The shot taken from 25 yards out was unstoppable even by Alisson."

In a post-match interview, Baek Seung-ho said, "I tried to show my best. I think it was somewhat okay since I was able to help in a difficult situation." He added, "I believe that we made it to the Round of 16 because we had strong faith that we could keep going until the end. I think we were able to show that belief in our performance."

When asked what Coach Bento said to him, he replied, "The coach told me not to rush," and added, "'He asked me to stay as calm as possible and show what I can do.'"

Baek Seung-ho stated, "It was a really good opportunity and a great experience. I will continue to work hard to show good performances in the future."
