Pohang Leading Carbon Neutrality Discusses Plans to Realize a Green (GREEN) Future 'Pohang Future Forum Opening the Era of Carbon Neutrality' Held.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] On the 5th, Pohang City held the "Pohang Future Forum Opening the Era of Carbon Neutrality" at the city hall's main conference room, attended by about 150 people including citizens, members of social organizations, and public officials, to concretize carbon neutrality and discuss implementation plans.

The forum was held under the theme "Tasks and Vision for Creating a Carbon Neutral City Pohang that is Resilient to the Climate Crisis and Safe from Climate Change." Lee Won-tae, head of the Gyeongbuk Province Carbon Neutral Support Center, gave the keynote speech, followed by thematic presentations and panel discussions by sector.

In his keynote speech titled "Tasks and Vision for Realizing Carbon Neutrality," Lee Won-tae proposed carbon neutrality measures through organic policy sharing between the central government and local governments.

Dr. Cho Young-tak of the Local Administration Development Institute presented on "Current Status and Response Measures of Pohang City's Carbon Neutrality Promotion," and Hwang Yoo-sik, CEO of Greenery, gave a presentation titled "Pohang's Green Future in the Era of Carbon Neutrality."

In the second part, discussions continued on climate change response and energy policies for transitioning to a carbon-neutral society, including "Land and Urban Policies for Realizing Carbon Neutrality," "POSCO's Journey Toward Carbon Neutrality," "The Role of Smart Cities in Implementing Carbon Neutral Cities," and "Achievements and Challenges of the Greenway Project."

Mayor Lee Kang-deok said, "Carbon neutrality is not a 'choice' but a 'necessity' that can no longer be postponed. We will do our best to play a leading role in carbon neutrality by reflecting the valuable opinions derived from this forum into city policies."

Regarding carbon neutrality, Pohang City enacted the "Basic Ordinance on Carbon Neutrality and Green Growth for Climate Crisis Response in Pohang City" last November and is currently promoting the "2050 Carbon Neutral Green Growth Basic Plan Establishment Project" to reduce greenhouse gases at the regional level, including visions and strategies for carbon neutrality.
