[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] The Gwangju Western Fire Station announced on the 5th that it encourages the provision of emergency escape gowns for facilities such as saunas and jjimjilbangs in the area where quick changing is necessary in case of fire.
Emergency escape gowns are gowns designed to be quickly worn to help people escape outside in case of fire in bathhouses and jjimjilbangs, preventing casualties caused by suffocation from smoke or burns while putting on clothes.
Following casualties caused by delayed evacuation in fires at saunas and bathhouses, such as the 2017 Jecheon Sports Center fire and the 2019 fire at the women's sauna in Paradise Hotel, Incheon, the station is actively encouraging the provision of emergency escape gowns to create an environment focused on rapid evacuation.
Chief Moon Hee-jun stated, “With the easing of COVID-19 restrictions, the number of users at bathhouses and jjimjilbang facilities is increasing, and due to the enclosed nature of these spaces, quick fire evacuation is most important. Using emergency escape gowns during a fire will greatly aid evacuation,” and added, “We ask for the active cooperation of all related parties to ensure emergency escape gowns are available in case of emergencies.”
