Joo Hyung-cheol, Head of Gyeonggi Research Institute, Inaugurated on the 5th: "Doing Our Best to Improve Residents' Lives" Joo Hyung-chul, Director of Gyeonggi Research Institute

[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Joo Hyung-cheol, former economic advisor to the Presidential Secretariat, was inaugurated as the 14th president of the Gyeonggi Research Institute on the 5th.

President Joo majored in Computer Engineering at Seoul National University and earned a master's degree in Business Administration from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) graduate school. After joining SK Group, he served as the youngest CEO of SK Communications through open recruitment.

He subsequently served as CEO of the Seoul Business Agency, CEO of Korea Venture Investment Corp., chairman of the Social System Innovation Committee of the Presidential 4th Industrial Revolution Committee, chairman of the Special Committee on the New Southern Policy, economic advisor to the Presidential Office, and chairman of the Government Innovation Promotion Council.

In his inaugural speech, President Joo emphasized, "We will solve the problems of Gyeonggi residents by establishing a comprehensive three-year research plan closely related to the quality of life of the residents, strengthen policy research that leads the future growth of Gyeonggi Province, and conduct practical research that helps reflect the voices from the field in policies."

He added, "We will work together to consider and implement the role and vision of the research institute in line with the changing times to improve the quality of life of the residents. We will strive to ensure that research results lead to policies and bring about tangible improvements."

Regarding tax allegations raised during the provincial council confirmation hearing, President Joo stated, "Although we have been reviewed by tax accountants and accounting firms to confirm that there were no legal violations beyond the normal level that could occur during business activities, I agree with the opinion of the Gyeonggi Provincial Council’s Planning and Finance Committee, the representatives of the residents, that 'morality is an important standard for high-ranking public officials.' I will actively reflect this and thoroughly re-examine the related expenses and take prompt action."
