Delivering Love with Briquettes... Gwangyang Steelworks Love Sharing Volunteer Group's 10th Year of Briquette Delivery Service

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] POSCO Gwangyang Steelworks Love Sharing Volunteer Group (Leader Byun Chung-geun) carried out briquette delivery volunteer activities on the 3rd in Okryong-myeon, Bonggang-myeon, and Gwangyang-eup to help neighbors have a warm winter.

The Love Sharing Volunteer Group was founded in 2007 by employees who joined Gwangyang Steelworks to give back the love they have received to the local community.

They conduct activities every quarter in cooperation with Gwangyang City Dream Start to create customized study rooms, provide learning support, and scholarship projects for students who lack proper learning environments.

Additionally, they are actively involved in various efforts to create a society where everyone lives together, such as △sending multicultural families back to their hometowns △supporting senior welfare center supplies △special support projects for families with disabilities △home visits for wallpapering and flooring projects.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the briquette delivery volunteer activity, which was planned by the Love Sharing Volunteer Group to support neighbors in having a warm winter despite the increasingly cold weather.

The briquette delivery was carried out in three teams, with volunteers delivering 400 briquettes to Okryong-myeon, 500 to Bonggang-myeon, and 350 to Gwangyang-eup according to their assigned areas.

Furthermore, the 2nd and 3rd briquette delivery volunteer activities are scheduled for the 15th and 24th, respectively, during which about 4,000 briquettes will be delivered to families in need to ensure they have no shortage in spending a cozy winter.

Yoon Tae-sung, General Affairs of the Gwangyang Steelworks Love Sharing Volunteer Group, said, “I am grateful to the volunteers who willingly came out on weekends to participate in the briquette delivery volunteer work,” and added, “We pledge to practice customized volunteer activities together with the local community in the coming new year.”

Meanwhile, Gwangyang Steelworks is actively striving to realize a company that works with the local community by presenting a model where businesses and society develop together, such as delivering 3,600 kimchi jars to welfare organizations through the ‘Love Kimchi Sharing’ event and donating 4,440 kg of rice to the Gwangyang City Love Sharing Welfare Foundation for local neighbors.
