[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-ju] Dong-A ST announced on the 5th that its natural product drug for gastritis treatment, Stiren Tablets, has reached its 20th anniversary since launch.
Launched in December 2002, Stiren Tablets are a natural product drug for gastritis treatment developed using Dong-A ST's own technology. It is effective in improving gastric mucosal lesions caused by acute and chronic gastritis and preventing gastritis induced by non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). It is the only original gastric mucosal protector independently developed with Korean technology.
Based on excellent efficacy and active academic activities, approximately 4.51355 billion tablets have been prescribed over 20 years, recording cumulative sales of about 853.3 billion KRW.
In its third year after launch, 2004, it recorded sales of 17.7 billion KRW, entering the blockbuster category. Since its launch, it has maintained the number one market share in the gastric mucosal protector market (based on Ubist data).
Stiren Tablets have made efforts to improve patient medication adherence. In 2005, the formulation was changed from the existing hard capsule to tablets, and in 2016, 'Stiren 2X' was launched applying patented floating technology, reducing the daily dosage from three times to twice. In 2019, the formulation's length and weight were reduced, and the shape was changed from rectangular to round, further improving patient medication adherence.
Kim Sung-jin, Stiren PM at Dong-A ST, said, "We sincerely thank the doctors who have confirmed the efficacy and safety of this gastritis treatment drug as a synonym for gastritis treatment over the past 20 years," adding, "Stiren will continue to strive for patients' better lives through relentless research for the next 20 years."
