Ulsan City Recognized as an 'Excellent Institution' for Summer Natural Disaster Measures... Awarded Minister of the Interior and Safety Commendation and Secures 300 Million KRW in Special Grants Ulsan City Hall.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Ulsan City ranked 2nd among 17 metropolitan local governments in the ‘2022 Summer Natural Disaster Measures Implementation Evaluation’ hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, receiving an excellence award and securing a special grant of 300 million KRW.

This evaluation was conducted by comprehensively assessing the results of the central joint inspection of preemptive measures against heavy rain, the damages occurring during the summer natural disaster period from May 15 to October 15, the operation and response performance of the Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters, and administrative matters.

In this evaluation, Ulsan City received high scores for proactive administrative actions such as installing a large-capacity fire monitor in Taehwa Market during the actual response period, closing the underground parking lot of Eonyang Bancheon Hyundai Apartment and evacuating nearby schools in advance, and recommending the suspension of business in underground commercial establishments.

Additionally, Mayor Kim Doo-gyeom of Ulsan City made the Samsan Drainage Pump Station, a flood prevention facility in the downtown area, his first field visit on the first day of his 8th term, and each time heavy rain and typhoon warnings were issued, he visited frequently flooded areas such as Taehwa Market to check preparedness, which was also highly evaluated for his continuous attention to disasters.

Considering that this year heavy rain during the summer monsoon was concentrated in the metropolitan area and Ulsan had relatively fewer disaster safety countermeasure headquarters operations and actual disaster response performances due to heavy rain warnings, this achievement is regarded as an example demonstrating Ulsan City’s enhanced disaster response capabilities.

Kim No-kyung, Director of the Citizen Safety Office, said, “We thank the citizens and public officials who took the lead and cooperated to minimize damage from summer natural disasters,” and added, “We will do our best to protect citizens’ lives and property through proactive disaster response.”
