Sungjae Im Ties for 8th at 5 Under, Juhyung Kim Ties for 10th at 4 Under
'Defending Champion' Hovland at 16 Under for Back-to-Back Wins
[Asia Economy Reporter Seohee Lee] 'Korean Brothers' Im Sung-jae and Kim Joo-hyung both finished in the 'Top 10' at the Hero World Challenge, an event hosted by the Tiger Woods Foundation, bringing a successful conclusion to the tournament.
On the 4th (local time), Im Sung-jae shot 5 birdies and 1 bogey for a 4-under-par 68 in the final round of the Hero World Challenge golf tournament (total prize money $3.5 million) held at Albany Golf Club (par 72) in New Providence, Bahamas. He finished tied for 8th place with Jon Rahm (Spain) at a total of 5-under-par 283.
After starting the tournament with a 2-over-par round and falling to the lower ranks, Im Sung-jae showed fierce concentration as the rounds progressed, reducing his score by 1 in the second round and 3 in the third round. With his wedding approaching soon, he wrapped up his final game of the year on a high note before returning home.
Kim Joo-hyung, who also participated alongside Im Sung-jae, fought hard with 4 birdies and 1 bogey for a 3-under-par 69 on the day. He finished tied for 10th place with Sepp Straka (Austria) at a total of 4-under-par 284.
Defending champion Viktor Hovland (Norway) shot 3 under par on the final day to achieve back-to-back victories with a total score of 16-under-par 272. This marks the first time in 15 years since Tiger Woods in 2007 that a player has won this tournament consecutively. Scottie Scheffler (USA) finished second with 14-under-par 274. Cameron Young (USA) came in third at 12-under-par, and Xander Schauffele (USA) placed fourth at 11-under-par.
This tournament, hosted by the Tiger Woods Foundation, invited only 20 top-ranked golfers to participate. Im Sung-jae and Kim Joo-hyung both successfully completed their debut in this event by finishing within the 'Top 10'.
