[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-joo] The recipients of the 'Hanmi True Medical Practitioner Award,' jointly established by Hanmi Pharmaceutical and the Seoul Medical Association, have been selected as Director Jeon Jin-kyung of the Africa Future Foundation Zimbabwe Branch Medical Director and the Ewha Medical Volunteer Society. The award ceremony will be held on the afternoon of the 5th at the Lotte Hotel in Seoul.

Director Jeon Jin-kyung graduated from Yonsei University College of Medicine and worked as a specialist at Seoul Asan Medical Center and Severance Hospital. She is currently serving as the Medical Director of the Africa Future Foundation Zimbabwe Branch. For the past 10 years, she has been treating impoverished children at the Harare Public Children's Hospital in Zimbabwe and has consistently supported short- and long-term training for local specialists and medical students in Korean hospitals, dedicating herself to improving the medical environment in Zimbabwe. In particular, she established a respiratory virus PCR testing laboratory at the Zimbabwe National Reference Laboratory and created the basic system for pediatric respiratory virus testing.

The group award went to the Ewha Medical Volunteer Society. Founded by the alumni association of Ewha Womans University College of Medicine, the Ewha Medical Volunteer Society has devoted itself for 12 years to caring for the health of runaway and delinquent youths under the protection of Seoul's 'Youth Shelter,' with the aim of healing the bodies and minds of wandering marginalized youths and helping them return to a healthy society. Currently, more than 60 members of the volunteer society conduct specialized medical treatment, vaccinations, and psychological counseling to help shelter youths find emotional stability, carrying out devoted volunteer activities with a mother's heart.

Now in its 21st year, the Hanmi True Medical Practitioner Award was jointly established in 2002 by Hanmi Pharmaceutical and the Seoul Medical Association with the purpose of discovering doctors and medical volunteer groups who quietly carry out medical volunteer activities in unseen places. Considering the increased prestige of the award, Hanmi Pharmaceutical raised the prize money from 30 million won to 50 million won starting this year. The individual recipient and the award-winning organization will each receive 25 million won and a plaque.

A Hanmi Pharmaceutical official said, "Through the selection and awarding process of the Hanmi True Medical Practitioner Award, we confirm the noble love and sacrifice of dedicated medical professionals every year," adding, "We will spare no support to firmly establish the Hanmi True Medical Practitioner Award as a representative medical volunteer award in Korea."
