[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Kwang-ho] CJ Foodville, a dining division affiliate of CJ Group, is set to build a large-scale bakery factory in the United States. The company plans to actively target the overseas market.
According to industry sources on the 4th, CJ Foodville recently decided to construct a large-scale bakery factory in the U.S. The factory site is likely to be in the central-southern region of the U.S., where regulations on businesses are relatively less stringent.
CJ Foodville operates dining brands such as Tous Les Jours, VIPS, and The Place. They plan to establish not only a large-scale bakery factory capable of supplying bread and ingredients to Tous Les Jours stores across the U.S. but also distribution and logistics facilities. This is interpreted as an effort to create a base to expand product supply to the rapidly increasing number of Tous Les Jours stores in the U.S.
CJ Foodville first entered the U.S. market in 2004 with Tous Les Jours, marking the start of its overseas business. Initially, it operated stores directly but expanded to franchising from 2009. Currently, it operates a total of 82 stores across 21 states including New York, Los Angeles (LA), and New Jersey.
According to CJ Foodville, the number of newly opened or franchised stores in the U.S. this year has exceeded 50, showing rapid growth. The company aims to increase the number of Tous Les Jours stores in the U.S. to 1000 by 2030.
