Jeju Fire Department Conducts Focused Fire Drills in Basement Floors of Large Buildings

[Jeju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Jeongpil] Jeju Fire Station announced on the 4th that it conducted a focused underground floor drill at the Dream Tower Complex Resort in Jeju City on the 1st to prevent multiple casualties and large-scale disasters in the event of a fire in the basement of a large building.

The drill was carried out with the mobilization of about 30 firefighting personnel and Dream Tower officials, along with 9 firefighting vehicles.

The main training contents included ▲ confirming major evacuation routes and preparing rapid evacuation plans ▲ fire suppression using a smothering fire extinguisher and portable water tank in response to vehicle fires in the underground parking lot ▲ discussion of efficient smoke ventilation methods in the basement floors.

In particular, since vehicle fires involving electric and conventional cars in the underground parking lot can lead to multiple casualties and large-scale disasters, the drill focused on fire suppression training using smothering fire extinguishers and portable water tanks for vehicle fire suppression.

Go Jae-woo, head of Jeju Fire Station, said, “As it is the largest building in the province, rapid response by the Dream Tower’s self-fire brigade is necessary in the early stages of a fire,” adding, “We will do our best to protect the safety of residents by analyzing various disaster types and conducting drills.”
